ABOUT THIS COURSE

BlueZone helps care staff understand how simple, consistent movement can help older adults stay stronger, safer and more independent at home.

This short training course introduces the BlueZone approach, including why strength, balance, physical activity, nutrition, health literacy and social connection all play an important role in healthy ageing. It explains how BlueZone works in practice, with allied health professionals assessing clients, creating personalised exercise programs, and reviewing progress over time, while care staff help deliver regular sessions as part of the client’s routine.

The course also gives care staff practical guidance on how to support clients safely and confidently. You will learn why exercise matters for everyday function, how BlueZone measures progress, how to recognise changes in a client’s strength, balance, pain, confidence or independence, and when to refer concerns to the right person.

Importantly, the training clarifies the role of care staff. You are not expected to diagnose, modify programs or act as a clinician. Your role is to follow the program, encourage the client, observe carefully, report clearly, and always put safety first.

By the end of the course, you will understand how small, regular actions can make a meaningful difference to a client’s independence, confidence and quality of life.
