Standing Hip Abductions

HOW TO DO IT

Standing tall and taking one straight leg out to the side, then returning. Strengthens the side of the hip and challenges single-leg balance.

Verbal Cues

  • “Stand tall, light support for balance”
  • “Take one leg out to the side, keep it straight”
  • “Don’t lean over the standing leg”

What to Watch For

  • Hips stay level
  • Minimal lean of the trunk
  • Lead with heel

Safety

Stand close to the client. Hands should be on a sturdy bench or kitchen counter.
