Standing Hip Extensions

HOW TO DO IT

Standing tall and taking one straight leg back behind the body. Strengthens the back of the hip without arching the lower back.

Verbal Cues

  • “Stand tall, light hand on support”
  • “Slowly take one leg straight back”
  • “Squeeze your bottom at the end, don’t arch your back”

What to Watch For

  • Trunk stays upright, not leaning forward
  • Lower back doesn’t over-arch

Safety

Stand close to the client. Hands should be on a sturdy bench or kitchen counter.
