Standing up from a chair without using the hands. Builds the leg strength to stand up unaided.

Verbal Cues

  • “Arms across your chest or out in front”
  • “Lean forward, nose over toes”
  • “Push through both feet equally”

What to Watch For

  • Both feet bear weight evenly
  • No rocking momentum to generate the stand

Safety

Stand close to the client with hands ready to assist. Use a sturdy chair with no wheels, set against a wall.
