HOW TO DO IT

Standing up from a chair using the hands to push from the seat or armrests. Practises one of the most important everyday movements.

Verbal Cues

  • “Scoot to the edge of the seat”
  • “Lean forward, nose over toes”
  • “Push through your feet and hands together to stand”

What to Watch For

  • Both feet stay flat
  • Trunk leans forward enough to get weight over the feet

Safety

Stand close to the client. Use a sturdy chair with no wheels, set against a wall.
