Marching With Support

HOW TO DO IT

Standing tall and lifting the knees one at a time like marching, with one hand on a sturdy support. Gait support.

Verbal Cues

  • “Light hold on the support for balance”
  • “Lift one knee up, then the other”
  • “Stand tall, don’t lean to the side”

What to Watch For

  • Hips stay level and trunk upright
  • No leaning over the standing leg

Safety

Stand close to the client on their weaker side. The hand support must be a sturdy bench, kitchen counter, or fixed rail, not a wheeled chair or anything that can slide.
